About Artefill
At Dr James Fernau, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa in Pittsburgh, PA routinely utilizes Artefill – an FDA-approved non-resorbable dermal filler – as a permanent facial filler for the reduction of the nasolabial folds. The Artefill microspheres are uniquely enhanced with an outer shell of collagen. Artefill microspheres are five times smaller than any of the other fillers. Due to the presence of collagen, this filler requires that a skin test be done prior to treatment. Approximately four weeks after injection, the collagen component is absorbed and the Artefill particles remain to provide a permanent support structure for lasting wrinkle modification.
Unlike some dermal fillers that are eventually absorbed by the body, Artefill is a more permanent cosmetic filler that is utilized to restore facial fullness and to treat skin depressions, nasolabial folds, wrinkles, sunken cheeks, or facial creases with both immediate and long-lasting effects. Artefill is formulated by a combination of microsphere-enhanced collagen and lidocaine (for comfort). Artefill is intended for the correction of facial wrinkles, nasolabial folds and smile lines.
Artefill is typically administered to improve the contours of the face and the appearance of facial wrinkles, folds, and other depressions in the skin. Results can be nearly immediate, but some treatment specialists prefer to “under-correct” the treatment area, in order to complete the procedure in two or more treatments without risk of overcorrection.
