Pittsburgh Injectable Procedures
Botox is a non-surgical prescription that is injected into the muscles to temporarily reduce frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet around the eyes. Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles and reducing the muscle activity that may cause moderate to severe facial lines. The injections can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Botox injections provide noticeable results, without surgery or recovery time.
Botox, much like other cosmetic injectables, provides the facial skin with a smooth, refreshed appearance. Botox is the single most-popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure performed today.
At Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery, Dr. James Fernau offers a number of injectable fillers and liquid facelift procedures to keep skin looking youthful and to reduce smile lines and facial creases.
Liquid Facelift and Fillers
Artefill™ is a permanent facial filler composed of unique microspheres enhanced with an outer shell of collagen. The Artefill microspheres are five times smaller than any of the other fillers. Due to the presence of collagen, this filler requires that a skin test be done prior to treatment. Approximately four weeks after injection, the collagen component is absorbed and the Artefill particles remain.
Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable gel. It is used to instantly smooth out facial wrinkles and folds. It is an excellent temporary filler, which lasts nine months plus.
Lipodissolve, often referred to as mesotherapy, involves injecting a combination of phosphatidylcholine and sodium deoxycholate, into the subcutaneous fatty tissue in order to dissolve fat cells.
Radiesse™ is a highly effective, temporary filler that lasts about one year. It works well for treatment of the nasolabial folds or laugh lines, marionette lines and facial volume replacement. Radiesse is the product that generated the new term, “liquid facelift”.
Sculptra™ was FDA approved for correction of facial lipoatrophy (loss of facial fat) in the United States on August 18, 2004. It has been approved and used in Europe since 1999 and to date, has been used on more than 175,000 patients. Since poly-L-lactic acid, a derivative of fruit acid, comes from neither animal nor human sources, no skin testing is required before a treatment can be done.
